Football

Football, often referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, primarily using their feet to control and pass a spherical ball. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s goal, which is located at either end of a rectangular field known as a pitch. The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Football is characterized by its fast-paced play, strategic movements, and teamwork, with each match typically consisting of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes. Players can also use their heads and torsos to strike the ball, but the use of hands is restricted to goalkeepers within their penalty area.

The sport is one of the most popular globally, with millions of fans, players, and local clubs. Major competitions include international tournaments like the FIFA World Cup and continental leagues. Football promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and social interaction among players and supporters.
