Šachy

Šachy is the Czech term for „chess,“ a two-player strategy board game that originates from ancient India and has evolved into its modern form over centuries. In chess, each player begins with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns, each with distinct movement patterns. The game’s objective is to checkmate the opponent’s king, placing it under attack in such a way that escape is impossible. Chess is noted for its strategic depth, involving tactics and long-term planning. It is played on an 8×8 grid called a chessboard, alternating between light and dark squares. Chess is recognized not only as a competitive sport, with international tournaments, but also as an intellectual pursuit, often used in educational environments to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
